1. Obtain more votes on your other social media sites.  If you use Delicious, Stumbleupon, Digg or other social media sites, you can use Twitter to increase their ranking.  By tweeting your bookmarks to your followers (who should be following you because they are interested in your niche), you should be able to score some votes or Diggs for each tweet of this nature.

2. Drive more visitors to your blog by re-distributing content from your blog or site.  There is a nifty free plugin for Wordpress that will tweet each new blog post you make (Twitter tools if you search on Google).  People interested in those topics will read your tweet, and follow the link to your blog.

3. Sharing links of interest with your followers.  By sharing items of interest, you will naturally gain more followers.  If you keep your Twitter account on topic, you will build followers that are interested in what you have to say.  By sharing interesting things with your followers, you are able to drive traffic directly to web pages of your choice.

4. Pitching ideas to journalists with large followings.  By sharing ideas with journalists, and striking up online relationships with them, you can work your way into stories they may write, which will result in more traffic and more exposure for your site.

5. Hiring people.  If you are serious about creating an online presence, at some point you are going to need to invest in employees or contractors.  Twitter is a great medium to find people to take on various tasks for you, such as writing unique content, building links by hand, directory submissions, even website design.
